Stitch Fix Review, my 13th Fix

I'm back at it with another Stitch Fix review! I skipped sharing a few boxes with you, this is my 13th Fix! OMG! Its my first Fix taking advantage of Stitch Fix's new plus size offering. Its also my first fix as a regular customer and not a stylist. I was really hesitant to get a box that I couldn't style for myself, I'm super picky and don't really like surprises. Stitch Fix must have sensed my apprehension, or noticed that it had been more than 6 months since my last Fix and sent me an offer to get a Fix with no styling fee. Even with the no styling fee I was still a little hesitant to get a Fix because I would feel really bad if the person who styled for me couldn't live up to my super high, super weird, and super specific expectations, and got dinged for me buying nothing.

I spent some time looking at online reviews and FB groups where people posted the pieces they got, and I actually liked a lot of the pieces that I was seeing and I decided to take the plunge. Filling out my profile for another person to read was scary, and I even made a special pinterest board for my style that would actually make sense to another human. You can check it out HERE!
I asked for spring and summer pieces in  natural fabrics that fit the style of my pinterest board. Overall I would have loved more color, but I know thats a difficult request with natural fabrics. My Stylist Jan did a really great job, picked things that I wouldn't have tried on my own, and makes me want to do this again! If you are reading this Jan, THANK YOU!

What I got
Market and Spruce Sam tee, $38 size 2x
Market and Spruce Sam Tee in Grey, $38 size 2x
This tee is a really interesting fabric, not like a regular t shirt, more like a very light sweater? But not at all warm, in fact its so lightweight that its going to be perfect for the 115 degree summers. Its hard to describe the material, but be warned it is VERY snag prone. I love it enough that I'm happy to just be very careful when I'm wearing it. If you are clumsy or would be totally devastated for your shirt to get a snag, then this style isn't for you. The color comes off a bit light in this pictures, but IRL its a dark heathered grey that manages to avoid that  "Phys Ed Uniform" look that most heathered grey pieces seem to have.

Makers Amie Skinny Jeans in Mint, 18 W
I had asked for extra long colored jeans (my usual inseam is a 36), knowing that it was unlikely that they would be able to find pants that fit the bill. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they were able to find a pair of cropped jeans that I actually really like. I'm not usually one for cropped jeans, on me the tend to look like high waters but I am trying to stretch my comfort zone and I love the color of these pants. They are really comfortable and high waisted which is a MUST for me.

Renee C Amelia Embroidered Skirt, Light Blue 2x
This skirt was one of my favorite pieces in the box, and ticked so many boxes for me. The main skirt is 100% cotton, its high waisted, goes past my knees (no small feat for my 5'11 frame), and has the deepest pockets I have ever seen on a ready to wear women's garment. It fit like a dream and makes me want to twirl in a field full of flowers. Then I woke up from the dream and realized a few things that kept this skirt from being a perfect 10. While the skirt itself is 100% cotton there is a thick polyester lining. The care tag says 100% cotton so I'm fairly sure the Jan wouldn't have known about the lining, so that couldnt have been helped. The fabric is blue with creme embroidery that, while beautiful, was extremely snaggy. There were several large snags when I took it out of the box, and just taking it on and off for these pictures I got a few more. They were easily fixed by tugging on the sides of the fabric, but with 4 cats, I didn't want to risk it getting permanently damaged.

Deep pockets!

But a polyester lining, yuk!

Honey Punch Miriam Pocket Detail Top, blue and white 2x
This button down shirt is 100% cotton and really lightweight and would be amazing for summer time . The fabric on the pocket goes perpendicular to the rest, I love little design details like that! It also had knit panels on the side made from t-shirt material that I didn't like at all at first, but once I had it on I saw how much better it made the fit around the hips and made a kind of a an ~illusion~ that made me look slimmer around the middle.  This shirt fit really well in the shoulders and hips/chest, but was snug in the arms. The tab sleeve isn't my favorite thing, and in this case it just added to the bunchy-too-snugness in the sleeve area.

Market & Spruce Mercedes Stitch Detail Cardigan

This cardigan really tempted me, it was SO SOFT! And have you noticed that I am a bit of a cardigan hoarder? Its 100% cotton and has textured stripes in shades of grey. I was really confused because on the card its called mint, but its for sure grey, but I like grey so I don't really mind. Even for a cardigan I think it would have been perfect for summer, and the fit was amazing, this thing felt like it was made for me. I ended up saying no just because the fabric texture has lots of little loops, that I think between my cats and clumsiness, I would ruin in less than a week.

Stitch Fix Review, My 8th Fix

THIS REVIEW WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED ON MY OTHER BLOG, AND IS REPOSTED HERE FOR ARCHIVING PURPOSES.

I will start by saying, No there are not seven other Stitch Fix review posts that you missed. So yes technically this is my first review, but it is in fact my eighth Fix. Those of you who already subscribe to Stitch Fix or any similar box can understand the feeling when you see the mail carrier walking up with that lovely box in hand. Pure joy! We call it Fix-mas, because it makes you feel that "kid on christmas morning" anticipation and excitement. What has my Fairy Godmother/ Stylist picked for me this time? The packing folks at Stitch Fix really do a great job in making each Fix feel like a  a gift wrapped present.

Carefully wrapped in crispy white paper with that cheerful mint sticker. (also check that matching manicure)

Each piece folded and arranged to create a little rainbow

My first piece is the Papermoon - Puffin black white & grey striped tank, with a scooped hem.

This top is SUPER soft, and very light weight. Perfect for the 115 degree summers we have.

It has this adorable keyhole back which helps it feel more like a "top" than just a plain tank.
This is my first time experimenting with the super high slit side trend. Its like a little teaspoon of midriff.  Overall I love this tank and it will fit perfectly in with my existing wardrobe.  KEEP!

Up next is the lace yoke Loveapella Rajo tank in fuchsia  with a really cute border print. I love how long this is, I am 5'10 so often shirts end up falling short. If you are petite this top could even function as a tunic to wear with leggings. I was a little worried about the border print, since I have wide hips but it actually ended up being really flattering.

I love that the lace detailing is white rather than ivory and its really soft. Scratchy fabric around my neck/chest is a big no-no for me, since I have super sensitive skin. I was worried this V would dip too low and show off some major cleavage, but you really do get the best of both worlds. The flattering v neckline , but a more demure high scoop coverage.

Back detail. I will most definitely wear a nude bra with this top from now on. This top was a little out of my comfort zone with the lace top, and border print, but I ended up really loving it and I'm so glad I tried it.  KEEP!

Finally, a piece that I have been lusting after for almost a year was finally available in my size, the Pixley Martina slub knit cardigan in black. Marm has this same cardigan in cranberry and I was burning with jealously every time she wore it.

SUPER duper soft (can you see a pattern that I am obsessed with soft clothing) and has really long sleeves, pockets, and folds up so small you can shove it into your purse without a thought. Yay! I am of the opinion that black cardigans are the single most versatile clothing option on earth.  KEEP!

The final piece is this teal-y blue elephant print infinity scarf for Marm. She has a special affinity for elephants and I knew as soon as I saw it that it was meant for her. Its called "mint" on the receipt but IRL it is quite bright.

There are tiny little pops of neon grellow, so subtle that even the very trend-wary Marm likes it. There are also tiny pops of a few other colors, and I am excited to see the other pieces that this scarf will look great paired with.  The striped edge gives this scarf a little some extra, it helps accentuates the curve of the scarf, and makes it look intentional rather than just like a long piece of fabric. KEEP!

You probably noticed that there are only 4 items in this list (if not you can go ahead and scroll up now and check). The final item in my Fix was a pair of Lysse ponte leggings which were too small for me to even squeeze my bum into. So no pictures! I am not disappointed because I know that I am right on the upper edge of Stitch Fix's current size offering and these Lysse leggings run small. I could tell they were super sturdy and would totally be wearable as pants/ out and about. However they were much too small. RETURN!

No We Are Not Dead, No This Post Isn't About Downton Abbey.

I know that Marm and I are starting to have the bad habit of lagging on the Christmas Episode recap, by months and months and months. The good news is that last year we waited, like... an entire year, so if we do this one in 10 months, we are ahead of schedule.
I promise we are working on it. Sort of. If by working on it you mean making a draft blog and then not touching or thinking about it for months at a time.

Here is what we have been doing instead of marathon watching Downton Abbey.

What I Wore, Flowers in the Woods

Lately I've been reading a lot of blogs that feature not-your-average subject. Plus-sized women, older women, women with off the wall style, women who make their own clothes, women who only dress in vintage clothing, women who never post pictures of them selves and write things so funny you will get tears in your eyes. This makes me feel both discouraged and inspired, which is an odd combination.
I feel discouraged because my life is noticably less organized/adorable/well-designed/well-dressed/funny than those women's lives appear to be. I feel discouraged because I have so few days when I'm wearing anything but yoga pants, so few days when I do anything worth blogging about, so few days when I feel even a little bit funny or smart, so few days when I can find the silver lining in the clouds that seem to loom over my head.

I feel inspired because when I first started reading blogs, there seemed to be nothing but thin rich white women blogging about outfits that cost more than most folks rent, and endless trips to places I couldn't ever dream of going, which made me feel like trying to blog would be a fool's errand. Now when I read blogs I see women (and men and non-binary folks) of every shape, color, style, and type of writing, that you can think of. All these people, pouring themselves out onto these pages. I bet a lot of them wake up in the morning and feel like being well dressed or funny or smart is an insurmountable task.
And if blogging this long has taught me anything, its that anybody can do anything.
Especially Lillian.

Recently E and I went to his grandparent's chicken farm, which just might be the most beautiful place in the world. Its been pouring rain recently so everything is lush and green and smells like trees and fresh air. E treated himself to a new camera on black friday and is finally getting around to learning to use it. You can expect the quality of my outfit pictures to improve moving forward and I can officially  add "hunky photographer boyfriend" to my list of awesome things about my life.

What to Buy Yourself For Valentines Day

Tomorrow is Valentines day, but unlike gifts that are given by the object of your affection, gifts to yourself are forgiven for being late. If I were a nicer or more organized blogger I would have written this post 2 weeks ago, but I'm not and I didn't.
This year, no matter if you are expecting 1 dozen long stemmed roses from your dashing lover, or if you plan to spend the evening eating chinese food and watching House of Cards on Netflix, I insist that you treat yourself to something.
After all your relationship with yourself if the one that matters the most, it will be the longest one you have, and it can either be the most loving and fulfilling, or it can be the source of your deepest unhappiness. For your consideration, I have assembled a list of things would make an excellent gift, from you, to you, with love.

Happy Birthday Baby L

As we arrive full force into February, I have an outfit post from January! (Catching up from September! I guess I didn't wear anything cute for most of winter, haha)

At the beginning of the year we celebrated Baby L's first birthday! I am so head over heels for this baby, being able to watch her grow and learn, snuggling her while I feed her a bottle, I love this baby!

The party was held at a local gymnastics gym, so all Baby L and Little Z's friends (ranging in age from unborn-8 years) got to run and jump and bounce to their hearts content!
